Zimbabwe has a huge and highly diversified mineral resource base which has massive potential to reinvigorate the economy. The mining sector accounts for more than 60% of Zimbabwe’s exports, contributing just over 16% to the national GDP. Gold is the country’s chief export product, contributing more than 34% to export earnings, and accounting for nearly US $1.2 billion in annual forex receipts. The key challenges for mining companies are power, infrastructure, artisanal mining and currency retention.
